Although most rallis are hand sewn, some quiltmakers use machines to construct their quilts. Safiya-Bei Hussain of Dhamdka, Gujarat, India, used a machine to piece together the many pieces of locally block-printed fabrics that make up this quilt. The block printing industry in this area was sadly destroyed by the 2001 Gujarat earthquake.
