The Mountain Mist Batting company employed a unique marketing strategy to sell their products, including designing and selling patterns of both traditional quilts and unusual contemporary designs. This children’s quilt includes a rooster, hen and in the outer border, baby chicks emerging from broken shells. Margaret Hays, an art teacher from Chattanooga, Tennessee, designed this piece, among many other Mountain Mist patterns. The IQM houses the famous Mountain Mist Collection, which includes many of the quilts made as prototypes for the patterns the company would include on their batting wrappings.
