While padded quilts like those from Europe and the U.S. are rare on the African continent, many countries and peoples across Africa have textile traditions that are intricate examples of piecing and applique, including Asafo banners from the Fante people of Ghana and appliqued dance skirts from the Kuba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
