Republicans Alfred Landon and Frank Knox ran against incumbents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John Nance Garner in the 1936 U.S. presidential election, and lost. If you look closely at one of the purple fabrics, you can see the Landon-Knox campaign logo printed on it.
