The Jameses collected broadly, aiming to represent all areas of quilt history. But they also pursued examples that were the "best of the best." For example, the Crazy quilt hanging in this c. 1990 photo of their storage space is one of the most famous of its category. Made between 1877 and 1912 by Mary Hernandred Ricard, "My Crazy Dream" (Ricard's own title) represents the pinnacle of the heavily embellished, visually stimulating, late nineteenth-century Crazy quilt.
