The Jameses' approach to collecting was thorough. They often bought multiple examples of the same pattern, in particular of designed patterns from the heyday of kits and published patterns, c. 1915-1940. Here are two quilts made around the same time featuring a Marie Webster pattern, but each has features that distinguish them.
