Commentary written by Ardis James: "Made by Cora Gregory James (Mrs. Ernest Clair James) of wool pieces of varying size, possibly clothing. The filler is probably hand sheared and carded from Shropshire sheep from Sales Raised on the Skinner farm in Herman. This work is evidently intended to be utilitarian rather than pretty. It is attractive, however. Both sides are the same, black ground with assorted colors."

Cora Gregory James was Robert James' mother. Interestingly, she quilted this everyday quilt with embroidery floss rather than quilting thread.
