Sundoor is part of a series with central “doorways.” The title initially alluded to the progression of pinks through yellows that suggested the course of the sun through the day. Later, in a book by comparative religion/myth expert Joseph Campbell titled The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Patricia Malarcher found a reference to a sun door as “a guide through which one passes from infantile illusion to revelation of being.” That thought resonated with her experience of creating the piece. Sundoor is part of the exhibition, Abstract Design in American Quilts at 50: New York NexusImage courtesy of the artist
