Kyoto, Japan became Boston, USA’s first sister city in 1959: each holding a rich history as cultural heritage of its nation, two cities built friendship as tomodachi (friends) throughout the 1960s. The tea house, donated by Kyoto, was dubbed “the most generous gift” and served as an enchanting venue to learn about Japan via special ceremonies and school visits held inside it.
