The Needle and Thread Arts Society, led by its co-founder Gen Guracar, made the Women in Struggle Quilt in the early 1980s to commemorate and bring attention to "the many issues that women around the world have agitated [for] and organized [around] in order to bring change, such as women's health, against oppressive laws, for peace, women's history, etc."
