Once again, prints pass for solids in this remarkably modern-looking quilt. It is primarily the saturated orange strips that are actually solid, while most of the other fabrics feature small dots or flowers. Constructed as a workaday bedcovering, the simple Square in a Square pattern gives the quilt a sophistication that would have been appealing to mid 20th-century Whitney Museum of American Art visitors.
