Value contrast—light vs. dark—creates a different effect in this quilt than in a Tumbling Blocks quilt. Sharp value contrasts can create figure-ground reversals, wherein the eye perceives certain areas as being on a different plane than other areas. Does your eye see the areas with deep red triangles as foreground or background?
