Although silk fabrics were often used in quilts, especially Crazy quilts, rayon—a synthetic fiber made from wood pulp—was less common. In the late 19th century, rayon was primarily used to make fabrics for trims and ribbons but by the early 20th century, it had become more common as yardage for clothing.
