Discovered in a charity shop, this bag has no provenance. However, it is a good example of the smaller items women were encouraged to make in fancywork through magazines and needlework books.
Crazy patchwork, with its use of luxury fabrics together with embellishment, is an ideal technique to employ for a special item. The bag has possibly been fashioned from parts of an older piece of Crazy patchwork with some more modern fabrics added later. The frame and chain are celluloid and the latter date is probably for the frame/clasp. The Crazy patchwork is likely earlier, circa 1900.
