In the United States, manufacturers seized upon the popularity of Crazy quilts and began producing items to make the work easier. Hand embroidering an entire Crazy quilt was extraordinarily time consuming, and pre-embroidered patches such as this one would have greatly reduced the labor involved. Looking closely, you can see the small, blue appliqué stitches that serve to hold down this pre-made decal.
