Representing two popular quilt styles in turn-of-the-twentieth century America, the maker combined Crazy patchwork with approximately 630 embroidered names. Many of the signers hailed from Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania and nearby environs. It is not known if the piece marks a special occasion or if it was used as a fundraiser, both of which were popular uses for name-inscribed quilts.
