A highly sophisticated and heavily embellished example that was purchased from a pawnbroker in London in the 1920s or 1930s, following the death of the original owner, a young mother who had left it in hock there. The quilt incorporates a wide variety of stitches including numerous French knots, and many floral motifs.

The four-inch wide border is constructed mainly from ribbon strips that have been embroidered further.
