Katherine McDonald, whose Scottish parents immigrated to Australia in 1854, was born in 1864 and made this block-style Crazy quilt probably in the 1890s. She never married and had no children, so before her death in 1943 she bequeathed the quilt to a close friend, who later passed it on to her own daughter. The sashing separating the blocks and the neatly applied embroidery stitches outlining them make for a relatively orderly Crazy quilt.
