This quilt may look like a “true” Crazy quilt, but it is only masquerading as one. It is actually made from a single piece of what we today call “cheater” cloth—a fabric printed to look like it is pieced, appliquéd, embroidered, or all three. In addition to a staggering number of embroidery stitches, the printed Crazy fabric reveals a fascinating mix of images, including Asian paddle fans and decorative roundels, horseshoes, insects, and a boy on roller skates. These faux Crazy patchwork fabrics were more common in the United States than in the United Kingdom.
