In the 1980s, quilts were not simply emblems of “American Country”—they were high fashion. In addition to hanging them on walls, designers found ways to hang them on bodies, as in this photoshoot featuring Christian Francis Roth’s high-end design (the skirt listed at $5000!) which appeared in New York Magazine in 1991.
