In 1990, New York’s American Folk Art Museum partnered with Country Home magazine and Absolut Vodka to host an exhibit of Absolut ads featuring works of folk art called Absolut Americana. The advertising campaign’s featured image was this quilt by Joann O’Callaghan and Angie Roth based on an Indiana Amish quilt in the Railroad Crossing pattern, framed by an Amish plain quilt. This choice of image by Absolut—known for prominently using iconic images in its advertising—suggests how recognizable Amish quilts were at this time.
