Anti-slavery Quaker women of Clinton County, Ohio, and Wayne County, Indiana, made this signature quilt in 1842. Mainstream Quaker meetings in the region had disowned this group, preferring its members to abstain from active opposition to slavery (even though most Quakers were opposed to it in principle). By the 1850s, anti-slavery Quaker groups such as this one had mostly been reabsorbed by the mainstream meetings. From the collection of the Clinton County Historical Society, Wilmington, Ohio
