“The Yankee Quilting Party” shows the transition of quilting bees in myth from work party to social party.  The lyrics tell the story of a party that ended with one couple caught in an unseemly position.  The final verse reads as follows:

“You’d oughter seen Miss Cartwright blush,
Just like as if she’d painted,
She said she had the toothache, and
In Samuel’s arms had fainted;
And now young gals I’d say to you,
When you go to a quiltmake,
Don’t let the fellers kiss an’ hug
Unless you’ve got the toothache.”
