“...everything which could be recognized as old-fashioned is the new fashion...”

This article demonstrates the transition from Victorian crazy and Log Cabin quilt trends to the clean lines of pieced quilts.  The Colonial Revival, beginning around the time of the Centennial in 1876, encouraged a nostalgic and romanticized view of the American past.  This nostalgia affected everything from architecture to home furnishings.  Magazines such as Ladies' Home Journal encouraged women to participate by making quilts in the fashion of their pioneering foremothers, loosely translated into pre-1860s quilt patterns.
