The quilted legacy of World War II continued after the war ended to welcome a new generation of Baby Boomers. In 1947 Verena Schmid made this baby quilt for her nephew, Gerald Gordon, from a parachute the boy’s father, Bill Gordon, brought home with him from the war. The Gordons couldn’t use the quilt because it was so slick that Gerald slid out of it! The family remarked, “Even war has its humor.”
