Mosaic patchwork is a classic style in the U.K. It is made by using templates to create and assemble tessellated (repeating) fabric shapes such as hexagons. Early mosaic patchwork quilts often incorporated Indian or Indian-inspired printed cottons; they also frequently followed the center medallion format inspired by printed Indian palampores. British immigrants brought the mosaic patchwork technique to the U.S. in the early nineteenth century.
