Eleanor Beard ran a successful quiltmaking company in Hardinsburg, Kentucky in the 1920s, ‘30s, and ‘40s. Begun as a small cottage industry employing a few local quiltmakers, the company grew to employ around 1000 people. The fashionable satin whole cloth quilts she produced were sold in stores across the country, including New York, Chicago, Pasadena, and Santa Barbara.
