Craftivism is an international movement, and knitters and crocheters are some of the most active practitioners. Craftivist Collective, founded in 2009 by Sarah Corbett, promotes activism and awareness about global poverty and human rights injustices through the non-violent and creative actions of crafting. One aspect of their craftivism is “Stitch-Ins” modeled after the Civil Rights Movement’s sit-ins as a way to promote public conversations about craft as well as to educate the public about their causes.
