In the 1970s, quiltmaking became a popular community activity, with group quilts such as this one made for a variety of occasions, some in celebration of the Bicentennial. Here the New York City Parks Administration sponsored a “Midsummer Evening Quilting Bee” provided free to people of all ages in Central Park.
