After September 11, 2011, quiltmakers across the country answered the call as they have during other national tragedies and natural disasters—through their quilts. California quiltmaker, Don Beld, behind the national quilt project, Home of the Brave Quilts, and fellow quiltmaker Bernice Wyman reacted to the terrorist attacks by making memorial quilts. This one honors the first responders who lost their lives trying to rescue others in the Twin Towers.
