This album quilt from the 1970s is reminiscent of the album quilts from the mid-19th century with one significant difference. This quilt top was cross-stitched rather than appliqued--a much simpler technique. Quilts using traditional patterns were common in the 1970s as women revitalized the craft as a way to reconnect to their foremothers. Cross-stitch patterns allowed women with minimal sewing skills to participate in the revival.
