As part of their mission to promote the preservation of quilts and quiltmaking and to teach quilt history and quiltmaking, guilds have regularly supported state survey projects to document quilts, the purchase of quilts by local museums, and the establishment of quilt-centered museums. The Nebraska State Quilt Guild made this quilt as a fundraiser to help meet their pledge to support the International Quilt Study Center & Museum. The IQSCM received donations and in-kind support from guilds across the state and the country. The IQSCM is not unique in receiving this kind of support. One of the newest quilt museums, the Southeastern Quilt & Textile Museum in Georgia, was established by the Georgia Quilt Council and supported by guilds like West Georgia Quilters Guild.
