Ron Cooper was one of ten artists who worked in collaboration with Los Angeles collector and quilt authority Ludy Strauss to design quilts. In 1974, Strauss commissioned these artists as an experiment “to see the results of a collaboration between masters of contemporary art and master quilters working by traditional methods.” Cooper used computer enhanced photography to produce the 1700-square grid that makes up Torso.
