Hortense Beck made this reproduction of Harriet Power’s Creation of Animals quilt, a piece Powers made in 1898, a few years after she sold her Bible Quilt to Jennie Smith. Powers may have made this quilt on commission by “faculty ladies” at Atlanta University. Powers told Smith the story depicted in each block, some mythological, some biblical.

Beck is known for her meticulous reproductions of historic quilts.
