Morning Star quilts, made by the Lakota and other Native American tribes, are similar in design to Lone Star or Star of Bethlehem quilts. In other ways, they are quite unique. In this example, the maker superimposed traditional Lakota symbols, an Eagle and Pipe, over the large central star. The quilt was part of the Otuhan or "giveaway" during the ceremony for the installation of Red Cloud into the Nebraska Hall of Fame in 2001.
