Although this crazy quilt from Michigan exhibits the embroidery work of the high-style versions, this one is made from sturdier wools—serges, gabardines, and suitings. Part of the “democratization” of quiltmaking occurred as women across the country made similar quilt styles during the same periods in urban and rural areas—with fashions circulating across class lines.
