Prairie Sunrise was the the Nebraska State Quilt Guild’s first raffle quilt. Designed by Paulette Peters and made by the Bag Ladies and Friends All Around groups of the Cottonwood Quilters, the quilt demonstrates many characteristics of guilds. Raffle quilts are made to raise funds for small groups’ projects, for charitable causes, or for guild programs. Small groups form within guilds to fulfill members' interests in the social side of quiltmaking. These groups also form to fulfill particular functions—fundraising, charity, teaching, outreach.
