This Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, Amish quilt looks like it was made in the early 20th century. Indeed, it was passed off as an early Amish quilt at one point during its sales history. Upon tracking down the maker in the early 2000s, however, researchers found that she had made it to sell in the late 1980s. Further evidence from fiber microscopy—nylon thread in particular—helped confirm this later date. Rather than a crib quilt made to welcome a child, this quilt was intended as a wall hanging to decorate a consumer’s home.
