An analysis of IQSCM collections revealed that post-Civil War quiltmakers quickly adopted home sewing machines in making their quilts. Some early machines came with quilting attachments; however, until the late 20th century, most continued to hand stitch quilting, rather than use machines. This late 19th-century quilt features early adoption of the sewing machine for quilting.
