Many early American quilts are “wholecloth,” meaning crafted from one piece of fabric, rather than featuring a pieced or appliquéd design. Creating a wholecloth quilt necessitated acquiring enough yardage for the entire quilt. This example, like many of the era, is pieced from wool.
