Although the provenance of this quilt does not identify the voting record of the maker, the Kansas City Star newspaper published this pattern as Giddap, A Very Democratic Donkey in response to requests for a pattern representing the Democrat Party in the 1932 presidential elections. Democrat presidential candidate, Franklink D. Roosevelt, defeated incumbent Republican candidate, Herbert Hoover, in the election.  The donkey has been affiliated with the Democrat Party since the 1828 election of Andrew Jackson whose critics had labeled him a jackass. Jackson adopted the donkey using it in his campaign ads.
