Chinese Fan, a quilt pattern featured in the Chicago Tribune’sNancy Cabot” column in 1943, seems to be Chinese in name only. Although fans were often used in 19th-century Crazy quilts to signify an exotic, Asian quality, this pattern displays no uniquely Chinese design elements. In fact, the pattern is almost identical to two earlier Nancy Cabot designs, Mohawk Trail and Path of Fans.
