One of a series of photographs documenting an outdoor group quilting activity, the picture shows two elderly African Americans using commodity cotton to stitch together utilitarian comforters. The quilt frames are suspended to something above them. Defying the cultural practices of the Jim Crow South, this event also included white quiltmakers, who appear in the background as well as in other photos in Delano’s series.
