The interviews conducted as part of the Federal Writers’ Project did not have recorded audio, due to technical limitations of the era. As such, it is impossible to know exactly what the narrators recounted. This passage from Celestia Avery features her recollections of quiltmaking on the enslavers’ property where she grew up.
