Although many WPA employees produced quilts as part of their paid work, some women also brought home the bits and pieces left from garment making at the end of the day to produce their own quilts at home. Georgia Mize from Knoxville, Tennessee, recalled that her sister brought home “some awful pretty scraps” from Knoxville’s WPA sewing project where she worked. Mize made a Double Wedding Ring quilt from these scraps, backing it with white flour sacks.
