Children received indoctrination to the understanding that quilts—and the scraps from which they were made—were cherished and meaningful objects of American and family history. The beautifully illustrated children’s book, A Patch Work Quilt of Favorite Tales compiled fairy tales, nursery rhymes, and adventure stories, including the introductory poem, “A Patchwork Quilt,” in which a grandmother recounts the stories of the dresses she wore as a child that are now made into a colorful scrap quilt.
