This jacket was made in the Crazy style in the post war period, when fabric was still rationed. It uses dressmaking scraps and follows the ‘New Look’ fashion. The lining is also recycled. Mrs Childs made it for her elder daughter to attend a dance. The younger daughter remembers her mother being taught the technique by a friend on a summer holiday. The intricate embroidery gives the jacket a lavish quality and is so dense that it is difficult to distinguish the patches.
