This White Bison Star quilt was presented to a Nebraska State Historic Preservation Officer in April, 1995 at an honor dance and ceremony that marked the resolution of a long-running legal dispute between the Pawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and the Nebraska State Historical Society over the repatriation of human skeletal remains and associated sacred objects.  The quilt was presented by Lula Red Cloud, the quilt maker, and the Oglala Lakota Tribe. Lula Red Cloud is the great-great-granddaughter of famed Oglala Lakota chief Red Cloud and is one of the preeminent contemporary Oglala Lakota star quilt makers.
