Faith Ringgold is a well-known artist who began working with quilts in the 1970s. She participated in the Artist and the Quilt project. Beginning with her work in the 1960s, Ringgold created a body of work focused on politics, race, and feminism, in media including painting, sculpture, and quiltmaking.
