While fewer extant examples of the Center Square have made their way into public collections than its cousin, the Center Diamond, this pattern achieved its own sort of cult status, particularly due to its relationship to the color field paintings of Mark Rothko and the Homage to the Square series by Josef Albers (see previous image).
